Staff are the college’s key resource. Support should be provided to them in the form of welfare initiatives, crèche facilities, job share opportunities and relocation packages.

Developments can build in opportunities to increase key health targets; this could range from provision of facilities such as gym, healthy canteen to initiatives such as awareness raising programmes.

Water & HVAC systems
All water and HVAC (heating ventilation and air-conditioning) systems should be designed to meet the requirements of HSE Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) and Guidance, L8, “Legionnaires disease; The control of legionella bacteria in water systems”, 2000.

- Have the appropriate health & safety guidance been used in the system design?
- Have regular maintenance regimes been put in place to ensure continued compliance?

Drinking water
Free, clean drinking water should always be available throughout the college.

- Is a supply of free, fresh, drinking water to be provided for students and staff throughout the day? Will this be mains fed?
